The gamers passion for computer games has moved them to do what they do best – play games at leisure. Over the past decades, computer games have become one of the fastest growing hype-wave subject among the techno-geeks, leaving broadband and the Internet behind.
The demand for computer games to match the demand of the growing corporate world and the need to reduce employees’ idle time by involving them in more manually laborious tasks has led to the development of PC games that offer more of the same, while pushing the boundaries on what was already offered by the available PC games.
Some of the new PC games focus on categories other than PC games such as console games, mobile games, office excerpt games, fashion games, strategy games, etc. Some of the well known computer games are Tetris, Mario, Sonic, Call of Duty, The Sims, Bejeweled, Zuma, Harmonics, Luxor 2, Jewels, Deep Sea Challenge, etc.
Studies have shown that almost two-thirds of the population will use some form of PC games and a majority will play games online, with the majority purchasing the high-end, downloadable games. The average person spends two hours online daily, meanwhile, only taking five to ten minutes out of that time to play a quick game of Tetris or Solitaire.
The Internet offers many types of PC games, each of which is unique in its own way. One type of game, especially appealing to the younger generation, deals with imaginary worlds – with digital worlds made of data and with a number of Common Object Goals an inevitably tricky combination. These types of games offer transcendent, ethereal experiences of adventure, love, loss, hope, etc. That is what makes them so popular, the ability to be transported to a digital universe and to explore it with others.
Some games, more sophisticated, deal with the question of what it means to be human. What is prolonging the life of a person? How does it affect the addict to a particular game? What do you think?
Though the mostly MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) have the tendency to be quite addictive, they normally also offer a tremendous mental challenge. The storyline is intricately developed, the game is very plot driven, very poorly presented and the game play is elaborate and complex. Also, the video games offer you a chance to work with (and learn from) many commonplace scenarios and people. While
MMORPGs are in overall a lot better, and do offer some level of real-life meetings and interactions, they still are all mostly the same: you have to work your way through the ranks, you have to get the right education and experience, and then you have to go out and achieve. It’s convenient, too. neatly packaged, and little mysteries at the end of the road about what happens to the character after you have left the game playing. However, as with a majority of video games, there is an element of addiction in them, and this addiction is dangerous and harmful. The risks are few and the effects are often, well, dangerous.
When children or young teenagers play a video game, they essentially don’t know that what they are doing is wrong. It’s not asking the question of morality. It’s the question of knowing what your touching and reading are in reference to. It’s the responsibility of grown-ups to know what their children are doing, and to set very strict limits. We have to know about the stuff that their kids are handling at the dinner table or what time their children are swimming or snowboarding.
Our children’s lives are more complex and far more influenced by their parents’ permission and monitoring actions than our kids’ own activities. To get to the root of the problem and get to the essence of whether or not something is wrong, we must know what behavior is leading to these behaviors.
Video games have a definite place in the world of personal amusement, and it’s definitely getting to one’s conclusions about life. However, as with so many other things, excessive use of video games can have devastating effects on the character and soul of the one who plays them. Please note that I am not talking about playing certain video games that are violent and thus dangerous.
Video games such as Grand Theft Auto are the ones that I’m talking about. Choosing to play such games can open very dangerous doors for your character that can lead to monetary loss, emotional instability, family structurally, and a whole host of other problems. So, just do not take the games and video games into your children’s lives as you would not want to ruin them with the kinds of games and video games that would have them doing horrible things. There are much better choices for them to play.
